confronting the police now is a really bad idea for Occupy San Diego

The problems with it is that we do not live in a de facto fascist / police state. To take on the police, of which no officer is elected, doesn’t follow the chain of accountability in our electoral system. It’s the mayor and the city council who we should be hammering, they are the ones who are supposed to control the police force. If they can’t or don’t control the SDPD, then it should be demonstrated and illustrated to the city.

Going straight at law enforcement doesn’t demonstrate the lesson that police are unaccountable. Making the demands of elected officials to control them either gets cops off of Occupy San Diego’s back or illustrates your point and makes a strong political statement.
