Support Election Day Registration (EDR) -- AB 1436 -- and help increase voter turnout by allowing citizens to register to vote up to and on Election Day.

In the June Primary for California, we had one of the lowest voter turnouts in our state’s history. Only 23 percent of eligible voters turned out. As concerning as such a low turnout is, there is a way to increase voter participation. There is a bill pending in Sacramento that would increase turnout by 5 percent, or by 850,000 more voters! We’re working with a coalition of California organizations to make this bill a reality - can you help push Election Day Registration through?

Currently, Californians can only register until two weeks before an election, but those two weeks are just when many people begin to get excited about the election. It’s when the most ads are run, and the campaigns are doing all they can to reach voters. Why not allow all these potential voters to participate? The bill has already passed through the Assembly, so this year we want to urge the Senate to pass Election Day Registration.

The 5 percent increase in voters from this bill could swing an election for Governor or a critical ballot measure, where the margin of victory is often 1-3 percentage points.
