OK, OK, we’ll pay up.
Will you, now? Ducky for you.
I’m not convinced: I was driving on the freeway listening to this story on All Things Considered which my ears could not believe because:
- It talked about natural gas exploration outside of the context of how damaging fracking is.
and - the ugliness of the politics of subsidizing the development of renewable energy sources are held hostage by amoral petrochemical industries
I’ll be honest: I had a hard time listening to the segment because it barely discussed the elephant in the living room:
- fracking’s only supporters are gas drilling companies and their surrogates
- the industry crushes any opposition and research that uncovers the deleterious effects of fracking
- the negative effects of fracking that is being done now could show up in years and negatively impact the environment it’s done in for centuries
- Natural Gas is a less harmful hydrocarbon fuel, but it is a hydrocarbon, none the less. Eating smoked meats is less carcinogenic than smoking unfiltered cigarettes, but they are still carcinogenic.
This kind of position by Clooney to embrace NPR, whose domestic politics fit well inside the box, is consistent for him. On the other hand, I thought that Mother Jones would catch these kinds of inconsistencies where NPR produces cowardly, relativist material to placate right wing extremists who would just as well see NPR shut down.
