— Kobe Bryant (@kobebryant)
Kobe Bryant shows how it gets done. I saw the ice bath picture on his Facebook page a few hours before the game in New Orleans started. In that game, he broke the 30,000 point barrier in the second quarter.
“After receiving his 15th technical foul of the season, Lakers guard Kobe Bryant sat down on the bench and appeared to direct a gay slur toward referee Bennie Adams,” reports Mark Medina and Broderick Turner.
Ever since the Kobe was charged / faced allegations of rape from a woman that is a fraction as hot as his wife Vanessa (yeah, that’s sexist - but sexism was all over that thing) in Coloarado, he just doesn’t have that kind of margin for error when it comes to meaningless, indulgent behavior like this. It’s one thing to be a competitor; it’s another to be a high-achieving brat.
It also shows how un-even officiating (still) is in the NBA. I remember reading stories and hearing commentators saying that Michael Jordan was treated differently by referees than other players in the league. I heard the same said about Kobe. Kobe’s sense of entitlement shows in calling the referee faggot because he’s pretty secure in his place in the NBA.
David Stern can say and fine all he wants to: if Kobe isn’t the monster that he (Stern) or Dr. Buss created, then Kobe is the whole league’s monster.
